Lou Tzamalas, CFP®, CAP®, EA

Lou is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®), and IRS-Enrolled Agent (EA) who specializes in tax planning for Family Office and UHNW (Ultra-High Net Worth) clients, including advisory and charitable gifting strategies for non-cash assets. Tax planners are to wealth and financial advisors as surgeons are to PCPs; wealth advisors can identify problems with their clients’ financial plans, but Lou is called in when tax planning complexities arise and expertise is required.

Lou isn’t just interested in growing his clients’ assets or tax savings to increase their net worth, but also in aligning their values to improve their world. As an Enrolled Agent specializing in tax planning and a CAP® with expertise in charitable gifting, Lou’s clientele is predominantly philanthropic. Lou combines the big-picture strategic skills of financial planning with the highly technical skills of tax and accounting which enables him to be his clients’ most trusted advisor.

In 2015, Lou began his career as a financial planning resident at a fee-based Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) in Newton, MA. Lou has worked for top RIAs in CA, FL, NY, and MA over the past nine years. Lou joined one of the world’s largest public accounting firms to deepen his tax planning expertise as well as complete his required CPA licensing hours. He advises on tax issues and planning strategies for UHNW and Family Office clients on tax complexities that are not frequently encountered in financial planning. He advises UHNW clients and their entities, often receiving well over 30-60+ K-1s annually.

Lou is a double-Terrier having received his business undergraduate degree and CFP® certification from Boston University. Lou co-founded and led the Financial Planners Association, BU’s only financial planning and wealth management student organization, as an undergraduate. Lou is blessed to be in the position of giving back by teaching at his alma mater.

He is also a CPA candidate who is currently sitting for the CPA exams. He understands firsthand the challenges many of his students are going through with balancing studying, work, and family and is excited to be a resource for students on their journey to become CFP® professionals.
